The WEISS Lab

Pathophysiology of Ion Channels

Open positions

💡
Cellular electrophysiologist - channelopathies

The project will address clinically relevant, fundamental questions regarding the role of calcium channels in motor neuron function, with a key transnational aim of elucidating their pathogenic role in the development of motor neuron disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
The candidate will conduct electrophysiology experiments on recombinant and native cells to address the functional expression of T-type channels in motor neurons and the impact of ALS-associated T-type channel mutations.
Requirements
The candidate should have experience in the field of ion channel research with an understanding of the patch clamp technique and neuroscience. Experience with cell culture, basic molecular and biochemical techniques will be appreciated.
Additional information
Starting date: March 2023
Duration: 1 year (possibility of extension for 1-2 years)
How to apply
Please submit a cover letter, CV, list of publications and 2 reference contacts by email to nalweiss@gmail.com. Applications will be reviewed and considered until the position is filled.
💡
Cellular electrophysiologist - ion channel pharmacology

The project aims at an interdisciplinary approach to the development of a new class of calcium channel inhibitors with the potential to translate into new pain therapeutics.
The candidate will conduct electrophysiology experiments and will be responsible to evaluate the structure-activity relationship of newly synthesized small organic molecules on recombinant and native ion channels. As part of the project, the candidate will also closely interact with organic chemists and animal pain experimentalists.

Requirements
The candidate should have experience in the field of ion channel research with an understanding of the patch clamp technique, pharmacology, neuroscience and should be interested in the drug discovery process.
